About This Trip
Racha Island — also known as Raya Island — is a diver's and snorkeler's paradise. The water here is among the clearest in the Andaman Sea, with visibility often exceeding 25 meters. Lennam offers two departure points: Rawai Beach for traditional longtail and small speedboat (approximately 1 hour), or Chalong Pier for larger speedboats, catamarans and yachts (1 hour 15 minutes). Both routes deliver you to the same world-class underwater experiences without the crowds of a tour boat.
Racha Yai (the larger of the two Racha islands) has two main bays. Siam Bay on the north side offers calm, shallow water perfect for swimming and beginner snorkeling. Batok Bay on the west has deeper water, dramatic rock formations, and some of the best coral gardens near Phuket. Your captain can take you to both.
What makes Racha special is the water clarity. Snorkelers will see vibrant hard and soft corals, parrotfish, clownfish, and if you're lucky, reef sharks in the deeper areas. The sand is blindingly white, the water is a gradient of impossible blues, and the underwater world is teeming with life.
Because it's further from Phuket than Coral Island or Bon Island, Racha sees fewer casual day-trippers. The beach is never crowded, and on a private charter you can anchor at the quieter end of the bay and have the reef to yourself.
We recommend a full-day trip to Racha to make the journey worthwhile. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and snorkeling gear (your captain can also provide this). This is one of the best snorkeling destinations in Thailand.
