About This Trip
Ko Lon is the island that time forgot. Just 40 minutes from Rawai Beach, this tranquil local island offers a glimpse of authentic Thailand — fishing villages, mangrove forests, empty beaches, and a pace of life that hasn't changed in generations.
Unlike the tourist-oriented islands closer to Phuket, Ko Lon is home to a real Thai fishing community. As you approach by longtail boat, you'll see stilt houses, fishing nets drying in the sun, and children playing at the water's edge. This is the Thailand that existed before the hotels and the night markets.
The island has several beaches and landing points. East Coast Beach is the most accessible, with soft sand and calm water. The Main Pier connects to the fishing village, where you can walk among stilt houses and buy fresh seafood. South Beach is quieter — often completely empty.
Ko Lon is also a great kayaking destination. The mangrove forests on the island's interior coast are home to monkeys, kingfishers, and other wildlife. Ask your captain to bring a kayak or simply explore the shoreline by longtail.
For travelers who want to see the real Thailand — not the postcard version — Ko Lon is an essential trip. It's calm, authentic, and deeply peaceful.
